There are several things in our homes that we might take advantage of. The washing machine is one of those things. We use our washing machines on a regular basis, if not daily.
We take advantage of how convenient they are to have in the home and might not take into consideration that all that use eventually wears the machine down. Unfortunately, there could come a time when you need a new washing machine. How will you know when replacing a washing machine is the right move to make?
There are several signs it’s time for a new washing machine to be on the lookout for. Don’t come home to a washing machine that no longer works. Continue reading below and know the signs so you can replace it before the problems worsen.
1. It Rattles and Jumps Around During Cycles
Each time you use your washing machine does the sound of it force you to close the laundry room door, turn up the television volume, and shout to speak with family? A properly working washing machine shouldn’t cause too much noise while washing. A washing machine that makes a loud rattling noise might simply be unbalanced.
If you’ve tried balancing it and still have these issues, then it could be a bigger problem. Try to pay close attention to how much moving around the washing machine does as well. The washing machine should stay in one place while washing.
A washing machine that’s banging around and jumping while washing clothes is experiencing repair issues that could be more beneficial to replace.
2. It’s More Than Eight Years Old
Washing machines are built to last several years, but if yours is more than eight years old and is giving you issues, then it’s more than likely time to replace it. Newer washing machines are made to last even longer now. Replacing your washing machine will also be beneficial because a new version will be much more water and energy-efficient.
Although it might be a large cost upfront, in the long run, you’ll end up saving money.
3. The Drum Isn’t Filling With Water
The drum of the washing machine needs to fill up with water in order to properly wash your clothes. If the drum isn’t filling up with water, then it could be due to a leak in the hose or a problem with the faucets in the metal outlet box. These are fairly simple fixes that might not require you to replace the entire washing machine.
However, this could be due to a more complicated issue, such as a faulty intake valve. You’ll need to have a professional look at the washing machine for you to determine the problem. In some cases, it could be cheaper to replace it rather than try to correct several major issues.
4. There’s a Foul Odor Coming From It
All of a sudden you notice a foul odor coming from the laundry you. You determine its source is the washing machine. You run a cleaning cycle and switch out the filtration system.
After trying everything to remove the odor, it’s still there. In some situations, there could be mold or mildew growing inside the machine. This might leave your clothes smelling funky after each wash.
When this happens, it’s time to switch it out for a new one.
5. It’s Leaking During or After Cycles
Each time you do laundry, do you notice water on the floor? Even a small amount of water under or around the washing machine isn’t a good sign. There are various reasons why the washing machine might be leaking.
For example, the seal might be damaged, the hose might be cracked or broken, and the pipes could be worn down. Inspect the washing machine to determine the cause of the leak and then decide if replacing the entire washing machine is the right option for you.
6. Your Clothes Aren’t Washing Properly
Is your washing machine seeming like it’s washing properly but when you remove the clothes you realize they aren’t as clean as they should be? Do they have a foul odor even if you remove them as soon as the cycle completes?
Do you notice stains that normally would lift during the wash not coming clean? These are all signs that something isn’t quite right with your washing machine. Be sure to have it looked at by a professional before choosing to fix the washing machine damage or replace it with a new one.
7. The Drum Isn’t Spinning
After a laundry cycle is nearing its end, the drum will spin and the water inside of it will drain. That’s what’s supposed to happen. However, if you’ve recently been opening your washing machine and finding water sitting in it but the cycle is signaling complete, then the drum isn’t spinning at the end of the cycle as it should.
If you remove the clothes from the washing machine and they’re still soaking wet, then the drum isn’t spinning to help wring them. There are a number of possible reasons why this is happening. The best thing to do is determine the problem and make the repair if it’s simple.
Otherwise, it’s time for a new washing machine.

Has your washing machine finally spun its last cycle? Do you need a new washing machine? If anything of these scenarios listed above sound familiar, then it’s time to consider replacing your current machine with a new one.
