Donatello is a superhero and also one of the four main characters of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and all related media. His nickname is Don or Donny/Donnie. Donatello Ninja is the most intelligent and also gentle of all his brothers. Donatello wears a purple mask over his eyes. Donatello wields a Bo staff which is signature weapon in all series. The character of Donatello was created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

He is not the real son of Master splinter as he was adoptive and mutated son of Masters splinter. His brother’s name are Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo. His all brothers and he is named after a Renaissance artist as he is named after and am Italian sculptor Donatello. Peter Laird, who is the co-creator of turtle, his most favourite turtle is Donatello.

Donatello has a natural aptitude for science and technology. Donatello often speaks in technobabble. In all of his brothers he is the most logical and rational. He has a high sense of ingenuity. He serves as the second in command of the team. All the credit for all technological innovations of the team utilizes just like technical expertise, Intel gathering, vehicles, homemade bio weapons and more goes to Donatello. He is able to do any science and maths skill which one can think of as he is a very smart Turtle.

MIRAGE COMICS

according to the comics he is the calmest turtle of all. According to the comics the team has no official command structure and in the early stories Donatello is depicted as the next in command and also, he is the closest to his brother Leonardo. Also, in the first issue of this comic, it was Donatello who killed the Shredder by knocking him and his grenade of the roof. Second issue of the comics, there is the information about each Turtle’s personalities and also open with Donatello soldiering a circuit. In the third issue of this comics, Donatello was considered familiar with some computer systems.

IMAGE COMICS

In Image Comics, Donatello became a cyborg after his body was partially destroyed and he was shot and dropped out of a helicopter. The image character Deathwatch almost killed him by having his brain drain of mutagen. However, Donatello was not dead as he somehow separated from his body later with the help of his brothers, he returned to his body again.

ARCHIE COMICS

In the RT publications comics, his appearance was actually based on the 1987 Fred Wolf in carnation. According to these comics, he has a pure heart and soul. He is able to pass through the Netherworld unscathed. Sons of Silence which is a group of aliens choose him to share their wisdom. Very few people including Donatello could telepathically communicate with aliens.

IDW PUBLISHING

At the end of the issue Donatello was almost killed.  Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo were on a mission to stop prank from transforming the earth using an alien device which is named Technodrome. Donatello was at home when his other Brothers were away. There he was attacked by Bebop and Rocksteady. They smashed Donatello’s shell and almost killed him. The news of his death was spread across the internet. There was no chance that he could survive but then he said the end of him and his career. In the other issue of this comics, Donatello was not dead, his spirit was in an alternate plan and he was barely clinging to life. His brothers kept his body into the freezer Slow Down the Bleeding and increase the chances of survival. In the next issue, he finished propping his body to be moved to Lair. He also tries to his best to became Brave, he was trapped in a robot body, he faced an upsetting experience.

Television Series

1987 animated series

Donatello featured in 1987 in animated television series. Barry Gordon gave his voice. According to this series, he is depicted as the genius of the group and he invented many of Turtle’s vehicles and equipment including turtle van, turtle blimp and The Turtle com. He is a calm Turtle and he had invention many Revolutionary things. 

Coming out of their shell Tour

coming out of their shell show was the very first show broadcast from Radio City music Hall in 1990.  Later it was released on VHS. According to this show Donatello would be depicted as playing both a portable electric keyboard and in some iterations of the show. He was also depicted as he has constructed all of the Turtle’s instruments.

1997 live action series

Donatello also featured in live action series Ninja Turtles: the next mutation. And also, in the cross over episode of power rangers in space. The show was voiced by Jason Gray Stanford and it was portrayed by Richard Yee 

2003 animated series

Donatello featured in 2003 animated series and it was voiced by Sam Rieget. In this series, his skin colour is medium olive green. This colour is only use for him in this 2003 animation series.

2012 animated series

In this series his character was voiced by Rob Paulsen. According to this series, he has Crush on April O’Neil. In this series he is character was by giving him a gap in his teeth and taller and also leaner appearance than his brothers. He has a big heart as his intelligence.

2018 animated series

Donatello also featured once again in 2018 series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In this series his character was voiced by Josh Brener. According to this series, he is an unflappable mechanical genius and tech wizard and his Ninja skills are second only to his coding.

Movies

original Trilogy 1990-1993 

For the first time, he featured in the three live action films. In the movies, he is shown as more childish than he was in the Mirage comics and the 1987 animated series. He is shown joking around.

2007 film

In this film, he has a supporting role and he was voiced by Mitchell Whitfield. Donatello runs and IT tech support line to earn money. He is also the unofficial leader of Turtles until his brother Leonardo returns from training in Central America.

Reboot series 2014 to 2016

Donatello featured in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2014 it was portrayed by Jeremy Howard. In this movie he is the brains of the team and very calm. 

Video games

In the video games which are based on the 1987 animated series, he has the longest range but he cannot inflict as much damage as his brother Leonardo. Leonardo has the second longest range.
