What is the IBPS RRB Selection Process and Salary

Regional Rural Banks (RRB) refers to the scheduled Indian commercial banks set up at the regional level in different states to meet the needs of the rural areas regarding basic banking and financial services. All the candidates who wish to join these banks have to clear the IBPS RRB Examination.

IBPS RRB is a national level examination conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Board for those who aspire to join the Regional Rural Banks. The exam is carried out for the post of officers and office assistants. Here’s a detailed guide about the selection process and IBPS RRB salary structure.

IBPS RRB Selection Process

IBPS RRB selection process is different for each level. For Group-A Officers Scale I, II, and III, the process comprises preliminary examination, Mains/Single level examination, and Interview. 

For Office Assistants, the process comprises just a preliminary and a mains exam. There is no interview for office assistants since it is a lower grade post.

For IBPS RRB Officers Scale I, the candidates first have to qualify for a preliminary examination. Based on the preliminary exam marks, candidates qualify for the Mains examination, and those qualifying for the mains exam are called for Interview. Finally, a merit list is prepared for final selection based on Mains examination and interview marks.

For Officers Scale II and III, which is for Managers and Senior Managers, the process comprises just the Mains exam and an Interview. There is no preliminary examination for the said post.

What Is the Salary Structure?

IBPS RRB salary is the driving force behind all candidates to opt for a career with the Regional Rural banks. The salary structure of IBPS RRB of all scales comprises Dearness Allowance, HRA. Travel allowance, Leased accommodation, Medical Reimbursement, Pension scheme, and others. Of course, the salary varies depending on the position and Grade.

The Bipartite settlement, which is the basis of pay revision for all public sector bank employees, has set the salary for 2020 for Office Assistants between Rs.15000 -19000. For Officers Scale I, the salary stands at Rs.29000- Rs.33000. For Scale II, the salary is Rs. 33000 – Rs. 38000, and Rs. 38000, and Rs. 44000 for Scale III.

It is not just the IBPS RRB salary that attracts candidates towards the post but perks like medical and housing benefits, not to mention relatively less stress and work pressure than commercial banks and a good work-life balance. Also, like banking, it has excellent growth prospects.

Candidates in Scale I Officers are initially appointed as PO/Management Trainee and confirmed as Assistant Manager upon completing the two-year probation period. The candidates can go up to the position of General Manager through the span of their entire career. 

How to Prepare for the Exam?

The exam tests the candidates across areas like General Knowledge, Reasoning, English Language and Quantitative Aptitude, and Computer knowledge. Preparation for the examination requires practice, devotion, consistency, and of course, intellect. There are various mock tests and past exam papers available online, which candidates can refer to.

There are numerous books and resources available in bookstores as well, which aid in the preparation. However, in the end, what matters is your knowledge, practice, and dedication that will see you through.
