She made her debut as a child actress in the movie “Water” and stunned the critics by her absolutely outstanding performance in the movie. In this movie, she shared the screen with Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray and John Abraham. This film is about the life of widows staying in an ashram of Varanasi, India. She completed her education from Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya. During studies, she was a brilliant student and her favourite subjects were English, Mathematics and Science. She is the youngest child in her family. She has a sister and brother, elder to her.

She stunned everyone with her talent in the movie “Water.” In this movie, she performed the role of an eight-year-old widow (Chuyia). The film portrays how harsh treatment widows used to receive in the year 1930s in India. In the movie, she acted as a girl who lost her husband at the age of eight and sent to an Ashram, where she stayed and faced a low of challenged, leading to an austere life, slept on concrete floors, begged for the survival and sometimes sold as prostitutes to the Brahmin family across the sea. Her acting in the movie was praised worldwide and Hollywoods Young Artist Award Foundation honoured her “the Best Young Performer” in an International Feature Film Award.
An incredibly talented child, not understanding the word of Hindi or English, who had to study all the dialogues, ultimately acted so well that her incredible performance shocked many critics all over the world. Even after struggling with the language, the film was finished within three months’ time. Sarala had the biggest challenge to embrace the job of shaving her head. Getting bald is one of the biggest decisions that she has to take, as she had beautiful hair previously. To bring life to the character of Chuyia she decided to shave her head according to her Water story. The character of Chuyia will remain with us and praised forever.
