What Would be the World Look Like Without E-commerce?

As the world moves forward to be more updated and easier, everything we do in our daily life is being digitized. Everything becomes more productive and enhancing while you add communicating features with it. That’s why we are so obsessive and dependent on the internet. Nowadays, we use the internet to communicate, work, study, run businesses, research, and do so many important tasks.

But perhaps, one of the most blessing gifts the internet has offered us is the opportunity to buy something online. Gone are those days, when we were required to go to the market physically. We can now get our desired product home by just clicking on the computer or phone. E-commerce is such a victory in the digital world.

Surely, e-commerce has given us a lot. But have you ever wondered how the world would like without e-commerce? What situations there would have been if there were no e-commerce? Well, read on to find out the difference between this world and the world without e-commerce.

6 Crucial changes there would have been if there were no e-commerce

1. Product options would’ve been limited

Without e-commerce, people would be required to shop from the local shops. But local shops can’t get all the variations of a product. For example, a necktie can be in various colors and materials. But you will find only a limited version of a necktie in your local shops because the retailer can’t always provide a lot of alteration of a product for the local market. So, customers would have to compromise on choosing from limited options. And sometimes the case could be worse- not finding the product in the desired specification.

2. Tracking transaction would have been harder

Surely, the seller and consumer will make a transaction to buy or sell something. Tracking these transactions is an important task for a few cases. For example- the government might want to check some transactions to find out corruption or something like this. Transaction history would be so much useful in this case.

In an e-commerce shop, the payment happens digitally by credit card, Paypal, etc. They are both reliable and easy to track compared to the analog paperwork system, which is greatly used by most normal shops.

3. Selling digital products wouldn’t have been so easy

A significant advantage of digital products like e-books, software, streaming services, online courses, etc. is that they can be transferred by the internet. That’s how e-commerce gives us the privilege to buy and get them instantly. It is fast and easy for both sellers and buyers.

But if there were no e-commerce, even these products would need to be bought from a local seller. All digital products wouldn’t be available like this. And for transferring, users would be required to use some memory devices. The bottom line is, the digital product market would have been in very poor condition.

4. Digital services would have been less enhanced

E-commerce has increased the demand for digital services. A lot of people have become creative and skilled to provide innovative digital services for e-commerce. These digital services are enhanced by e-commerce. Some examples of these creative digital services are— Photoshop Clipping path service, image retouch service, creative content making, UI design, SEO, etc.

Without e-commerce, they wouldn’t be very demanding as most of the consumers of these services are e-commerce businesses. So, these image production, design, SEO and others would have been far backdated if e-commerce didn’t use them so hugely. If you have an e-commerce business, obviously you will look for the best service you can get. Note that- you can get one of the best clipping paths, image retouch and other photo editing services here.

5. Product price could’ve been a little or higher

The seller determines the product’s price, counting all business costs. If the seller needs much investment, the product price will be higher. In a regular shop, there are a lot of extra expenses that e-commerce doesn’t have. For example- shop rent, store management cost, security cost, transportation cost, employee cost, etc.

So, logically a regular commercial business would raise its product price to cope up with these costs. While e-commerce is free of those costs and can sell products at less price than them. Note that, selling products at less price than the competitor is a good strategy and that’s why e-commerce businesses tend to follow it. Therefore, we can get most of our products at a lower price for e-commerce. Without it, we would have to buy the same product with a more or less higher price.

6. Business maintenance would’ve been difficult and expensive

Maintaining traditional business urges for more effort than e-commerce. It is difficult too. When you are running a small traditional shop, you might not find it very hard to maintain everything. But when you are in charge of a massive shop or company, you will find it requires a lot of steps and effort to run everything smoothly.

But most e-commerce businesses use computer programs to do the managing jobs, even to deal with payments too. You can just sit and monitor everything being processed. So, traditional business management is harder than e-commerce.

Conclusion

E-commerce eased our life and made a lot of positive changes. Most of the things on the internet is directly or indirectly connected to e-commerce. It impacts everything so deeply that the world without e-commerce is hard to imagine. E-commerce made it possible to shop digitally, which was kinda fiction just a few decades ago.
