Even if you’re just moving down the street, packing up everything you own and moving it to a new location takes a lot of work. And moving long-distance can be even tougher!
That said, the fresh start and new experiences moving provides makes all the hard work worth it; and with a little moving assistance, you might find moving to be an easier task than you expected.
To learn a few tried-and-true moving tips that will help you stay on top of even the most monumental move, keep reading!
Start Packing Well in Advance
One of the most impactful things you can do to prepare for a move in a stress-free way is to start packing early. In an ideal situation, your preparations would begin as soon as you decide to move.
Now, that doesn’t mean that you should force yourself to live in a half-empty house for 6 months. However, you should start your moving checklist, timeline, and budget well in advance of the actual move so you can be as organized as possible when your moving date arrives.
Cut Back on Clutter
Another task you should tackle well before your moving date is decluttering. The more you own, the more you have to move. Plus, the fresh start feeling of moving is made even better when you leave the clutter behind.
In reach room, leave 4 boxes and label them pack, sell, toss, and donate. Any furniture or other belongings that won’t fit or won’t be used in your new home should be sold or donated.
Depending on how much you own, this could be a tough task, but be as strict with yourself as possible! If you haven’t used or worn something in the last 6 months, chances are there’s someone out there who could get more use out of it.
Book Services Early
If you’re moving to another state, hiring movers can be a lifesaver. You might also want to hire cleaners to ensure your current house is in the best possible condition when you leave it or set up a booking to ship car to another state.
Even if you’re only renting a moving truck, it’s crucial to book any services you’ll need early. Waiting until the last minute will mean higher prices; you might even find that the movers or cleaners you had in mind are all booked up!
Pack an Essentials Box
As you pack, be sure to set aside an essentials box, especially if you’re prepping for a long-distance trip like moving across the country. In this box, put enough clothes for the trip, as well as your toothbrush and other toiletries, medications, chargers, necessary paperwork, and any other travel must-haves.
If for some reason your moving truck gets lost or delayed, you’ll have the essentials with you.
Take All the Moving Assistance You Can Get
When prepping for a move, there’s nothing wrong with getting a little moving assistance! Hiring movers, for example, can take a huge weight off your shoulders, making your move smoother and less stressful.
If you can’t or don’t want to hire movers, don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family for moving help. Order a few pizzas, put on some music, and have a packing party!
