1. One German City Links Ferrari and Porsche

Well, one of our favorite facts about Ferraris is that the prancing horse predates the inception of both companies.

Enzo was encouraged to use the image in his racing days by the family of Italian war hero Francesco Baracca. Legend has it that it was painted on his plane as a good luck charm after shooting down a German plane, whose pilot painted his hometown’s emblem on its body.

The town? Stuttgart, the proud home of Porsche and the reason the two powerhouses of sports cars have similar logos.

2. We Only Have Streetcars Because Ferarri Needed Money

Enzo became obsessed with racing ever since he and his brother were taken to the Circuit de Bologna when he was 10. It was his passion, however, passion projects can become expensive.

For this reason, when rebuilding his company from the ashes of his previous bombed factory, he was encouraged to start selling some of his amazing cars to generate some revenue. He reluctantly obliged, but his primary source of joy was on the track.

3. Henry Ford Almost Bought Ferarri

Can you imagine the most quintessentially American car brand owning the Italian posterchild? Well, it almost happened in 1963.

In a mythical meeting of motor minds, Henry Ford met Enzo Ferrari to put pen to paper on a deal that would have handed the keys of the kingdom over to Ford.

All was going well until Enzo asked about a non-negotiable. Him continuing to head the racing department. Ford said no, Enzo fumed and gave him his marching orders.

4. Ferrari’s Are Red Because They Are Italian

Whether you are buying a Ferrari, or making a decision about which Ferrari exotic and luxury rentals to choose from, we already know what color you want it in. In fact, 45% of all Ferraris are in red.

But the iconic “Rossa Scuderia” can’t be attributed to an excellent marketing decision or a spark of inspiration from the top.

Again highlighting their racing roots, red was the color assigned by the motorsport governing body, the FIA, for all Italian companies, and the rest is history.

Ferrari has winning in their blood, and this is best demonstrated in their historical dominance at the pinnacle of motorsports, Formula 1.

They have won the constructors championship a staggering 16 times. The peak was during the time of Michael Schumacher, who won 5 driver titles driving a Ferrari.

6. The Most Valuable Car in the World? Of Course, It’s a Ferrari!

The most expensive car ever sold was a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold at auction in 2018. Originally designed for racing legend Stirling Moss, it sold for a whopping $48.4 million.
